Nuclear Forensics Education Award Program
Nuclear Forensics Junior Faculty Award Program

This program is designed to foster the education of highly trained personnel to meet the hiring needs of the United States Departments of Defense and Homeland Security (DoD/DHS) for research and development in areas related to ongoing DoD/DHS sponsored programs in nuclear forensics. Fellows gain unique, hands-on experience through laboratory practicums and close interaction with technical and policy experts throughout the nuclear forensics community. Ultimately, the NFGFP gives highly motivated students an exceptional opportunity to apply their knowledge to enhance U.S. national security.

Rickover Graduate Fellowship in Nuclear Engineering (RFP)
This program assists in preparing students for roles in naval nuclear propulsion and supports the broader objective of advancing fission energy development through the research efforts of the fellows. The technical areas with greatest interest include reactor physics, nuclear materials science and engineering, radiation shielding technology, thermal hydraulics, and computational fluid dynamics. The principle emphasis is on students seeking Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering, or in closely related fields.

This program is designed to meet the needs of the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) for appropriately trained personnel in research and development in areas pertinent to Nuclear Nonproliferation International Safeguards. The principle emphasis of this fellowship is to produce doctoral graduates who are familiar with both the technical and policy aspect of nonproliferation and international safeguards.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

Nuclear Forensics Undergraduate Scholarship Program (NFUSP)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), the Nuclear Forensics Undergraduate Scholarship Program (NFUSP) provides scholarships to qualified undergraduate students pursuing degrees in disciplines relevant to technical nuclear forensics. The NFUSP introduces students studying physics, chemistry, nuclear engineering, and material science to nuclear forensics as a career option. Scholars gain hands-on experience through unique summer research opportunities at the national laboratories, including close interaction with technical experts throughout the national nuclear forensics community.

UNIVERSITY & FACULTY PROGRAMS

Nuclear Forensics Junior Faculty Award Program (NFJFAP)
This program is designed to meet the DHS/DNDO stated mission goal to provide appropriately trained personnel for the nuclear forensics research and development programs at national laboratories and facilities throughout the United States. The NFJFAP encourages talented individuals who have recently received a Ph.D. in a discipline related to the technical areas listed below to consider and/or advance their careers in an academic institution.Nuclear Forensics Education Award Program (NFEAP).

Nuclear Forensics Education Award Program (NFEAP)
In response to the declining cadre of nuclear forensics-trained faculty and personnel at universities, national laboratories, and facilities throughout the United States, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) established the Nuclear Forensics Education Award Program (NFEAP). The NFEAP is designed to encourage universities to develop interdisciplinary programs in partnership with national laboratories that support and advance the science and technology associated with nuclear forensics.

• Blue Ribbon Commission for America's Nuclear Future
• Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (Small Modular Reactors Subcommittee)

SCUREF, through its subcontract with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), provides logistical support to federal advisory committees. These committees, which are authorized under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, are supported by the US Department of Energy. MUSC's Office of Special Programs, provides assistance with meeting locations, transportation, lodging, agenda preparation and dissemination, meeting minutes, and other bookkeeping activities.
